Your Ford Mustang is a true pony car. A coupe with class and no other car on the road is like it. Heck, GM abandoned the Camaro and Firebird while Mustang sales continue to surge. Could it be that Mustang owners know a good thing when they drive it? You bet! Still, maybe you have considered ways to ratchet up the performance. Even with a V8 installed, perhaps you could squeeze out more power from an already potent engine? If that is the case for you a superchip may be right. However, are they worth it? Let’s take a look at these little technological wonders and see if a super chip is what you really want.
So, exactly how does a superchip work? That’s easy! Every car comes with a computer chip - much like the one the central processing chip that powers your computer. Your stock chip helps to regulate a bunch of things including fuel flow to your engine, horsepower, torque, etc. Unfortunately, stock chips aren’t maximized for performance so the chip you get isn’t necessarily conducive to enhancing power.

When shopping for a super chip you must be aware that the chips are developed with your specific make/model of car in mind…all the way down to the type of engine underneath the hood. Some manufacturers of Ford super chips or other famous maker chips require you to take out your current chip and overnight it to the chip manufacturer, get it modified, and have it overnighted back to you. In this case your car would be out of commission for 2 or 3 days.
On the other hand, some manufacturers simply swap out your stock chip with a new one. That all depends on which chip model you select and the price you are willing to pay for your superchip.

Call it an “inner voice.” Call it your “guardian angel.” Call it whatever you want. I’m referring to that little voice that seems to talk to you every now and then.
I think most people have had an experience where something has “told” them about an impending event that was about to impact upon their lives. I have.
My guardian angel has “spoken” to me several times. Let me share with you the most graphic example that occurred quite a few years ago now. This is a true story. You can believe it or not. But this really happened to me.
It all began at a seminar that my wife and I were attending. The seminar was conducted at an inner city suburb in a meeting room.
It was decided that about twenty leaders of the large gathering would travel into the eastern hills area of Perth (Western Australia) to have further discussions with the presenter. The time was approximately 10.00pm when we left the meeting to travel in a bit of a “convoy” up to the hills address.
As I was walking to my vehicle I heard a voice that seemed to be behind my left shoulder. It said just two words: “Be careful!” I turned around to see who had spoken but there was nobody there. That perplexed me. In fact, I don’t mind saying, it kind of spooked me.
I thought for a moment then remarked to my wife that I wanted her to check my driving and make sure that I was travelling safely to the address. I remember that she asked me if I was too tired to go to which I replied: “No. I just want you to make sure that I drive safe.”
Eventually, after about three-quarters of an hour, we arrived at the hills destination - a place called Kalamunda. More than a dozen vehicles had either already pulled up or were arriving at around the same time as us.
We went inside for further talks with the marketer. It was a fairly casual affair and everybody got some individual attention, which was good. We got all our questions answered then it was time for a bit of socialising. Before long we were all just having a good time together.
At around 1.30am my wife remarked that she was very tired and wanted to go home. Immediately the words “Be careful!” rang in my ears again. Now I was really concerned. I seemed to be having some sort of “para-normal” contact with somebody or something. In fact, it is making me feel rather weird right now just thinking and writing about it.
This happened again about fifteen minutes later. The same words.
At around 2.00am most of us were well and truly ready to leave. I had wanted to go myself but I was very reluctant to leave due to the “voice.” Now, here is where things really started to get interesting. I never put all the events together until later. Here is what happened…
One couple were unable to start their vehicle. They had excused themselves ten minutes before. When we arrived at our vehicle they were still trying to get the motor in their vehicle going. We later found out that they managed to do so soon after several other vehicles, including ours, departed.
Another couple who led us out of the semi-rural property took off fairly quickly and was well in advance of us. I was driving very cautiously as I was still being influenced by the warnings that I had received. Again, I asked my wife to be very conscious of my driving. “Be careful!” I had heard those words three times and I knew not where they came from.
Half way down Kalamunda Hill we saw a most amazing sight. We caught a view of dozens of multi-colored flashing lights in red and blue. We knew straight away that they belonged to police and ambulance vehicles.
Again I mentioned to my wife that I wanted her to check my driving. I was concerned that maybe whatever had happened down at the base of the hill was the thing that I was being warned about. However, in the back of my mind I was also thinking that maybe whatever had happened below might just be a distraction to me for something else. I guess you could say that I had my radar well and truly turned on.
A few minutes later we arrived at the scene. It was the main intersection at the foot of the hill where a highway intersected several main roads including the road that we had descended on. We were confronted by a sea of flashing lights - police, ambulances and fire trucks. There were people everywhere. Remember this was at 2.00am. The intersection would normally be deserted except for vehicles travelling through it.
Traffic was being re-routed by police manning the intersection. We saw our friends’ vehicle just ahead. We learned later that they had witnessed the entire event but, eerily, something strange had also happened to their vehicle as they approached the intersection. As they were about to make a right hand turn their vehicle mysteriously stalled. So they had sat there for a minute or so trying to get their vehicle re-started. They saw the whole thing as it happened.
A stolen vehicle full of drunken under-age youths had been driven with its lights off on the wrong side of the highway. It was being pursued, at more than 100mph, by many police vehicles. Others had converged from other directions.
The youths crashed the stolen vehicle that they were racing into the vehicle of a fairly well-known Perth identity. He was killed outright along with several of the youths. Pieces of both vehicles lay strewn all across the intersection. I remember seeing the front seat of one of the vehicles sitting in one of the lanes on the highway itself. . There was glass, oil, fuel, water and mangled bodies everywhere. It was a disaster of massive proportions.
Our friends who had witnessed the entire chase and subsequent crash were later summoned to Court to give an eye-witness accounts. As it turned out they were about to follow the vehicle of the victim when their vehicle mysteriously stalled, thereby probably saving their own lives.
This is a remarkable but true story for three reasons:
- I had been pre-warned of something dangerous on three separate occasions
- One group of friends was unable to start their vehicle, preventing them from leaving
- A second couple, also friends, stalled their vehicle at the very intersection of the crash.
Were these incidents random? Somehow, based on my experience with the voice, I think not. There is one thing that I believe - someone or something alerted me to danger that night. Our friends were also being “protected.” Was it my guardian angel? Was God speaking to me? I do not know.
What I do know is that three separate incidents caused none of our vehicles to be at the precise impact point where the stolen vehicle crashed into Mr A’s vehicle. I will refer to this gentleman as Mr A. Even though the crash occurred in 1990, I still remember his name. He has an award named in his honor for service to the sporting community in Western Australia. May his soul rest in peace.

Anyone who knows me for more than five minutes becomes acutely aware that I am truly obsessed with the City of Light. Yes, Paris is the place for me. Since I was a child, I have been enamoured with Paris; the culture, the language, the history, the romance. More tourists visit Paris each year than any other city in the world.
I made my first trek to Paris a few years back. The first time was, of course, a long-time dream that had come true. After studying the city for so many years, it felt like I was finally home. It was a strange feeling to experience such familiarity with a place that I had never visited before. Oddly, I felt as though I had just returned back home to Paris from a very long vacation.
The famous landmarks were right where I knew they would be, on the streets just exactly where they belong. The incredible food and, the sheer presentation of each meal, were just as I had imagined they would be. Life in the bustling metro stations and the crowded city streets buzzed by with urgency, as I had expected. But one thing was so different than I had ever imagined; in Paris, everywhere you look, there are dogs, dogs, everywhere!
It is a dog lover’s delight! Canine companions are welcomed everywhere in the city. Pedestrians speed by on foot, with dogs in tow on leashes and tethers. Up and down the streets every breed, big and small, is represented. Many of the small dogs are carried in shoulder bags or tucked safely under their owners’ arms. The larger breeds are common, too; Great Danes, German Shepherds, Dobermans, etc., all wearing heavy muzzles.
I asked a friendly taxi driver one day about these muzzles. He explained to me that all large dogs, regardless of breed, must wear the heavy-duty riveted leather muzzles to protect the public from possible attacks. The city police are very strict about the muzzle laws, and all violators receive stiff fines should they choose to ignore the laws. He told me that because there are so many dogs in Paris, the frequency of attacks had been on the rise, therefore resulting in the mandatory muzzling. But the dogs that I saw didn’t seem to mind a bit. They were happy and content to be an integral part of Parisian life.
One of my favorite truly “French” lunches was a yummy croque-monsieur, loosely translated as a grilled ham and cheese masterpiece. I spent many a sunny afternoon in small bistros tucked away from the city’s fast pace, leisurely enjoying incredible culinary delights such as these. Many, many times, obedient dogs sat patiently in the company of their owners right next to us inside of the restaurants where we ate. And yes, they were welcomed patrons, often being served a morsel or two themselves. Coming from Montana, where dogs aren’t even allowed in our city parks, this was amazing and delightful! Now that is a dog-friendly environment.
I found it very interesting that the dogs in Paris look much different than our dogs do here in America. While it was obvious what breeds the dogs were, there were subtle differences that made them look noticeably different. The hair type, length, etc., were basically all the same in the different breeds. However, the actual bone structure of the bodies, and especially the heads varied quite a bit from our versions of the same breeds. It gave the dogs a different expression and a different overall presence. Even the mixed breeds were just a bit different than I’ve ever seen. For a dog lover, it was interesting to see the variations.
Unfortunately, dog friendly also has it’s drawbacks, which seems necessary to mention. It is a well-known Paris fact that one must be careful walking through the city’s winding streets to avoid the deposits left behind by the French Fidos. City council statistics show that 11.5 million dollars of taxpayers’ money is spent per year to deploy special city workers whose sole purpose is to roam the streets and footpaths take care of the dog waste. But, for me, it was worth watching where I was walking. After all, it’s Paris! And of course, it is the “nature of the beast,” n’est-ce pas?

Being prepared while out on the mountain bike trail is an absolute must and a great rule of thumb is to always pack more mountain biking equipment the farther away from help you plan to be. There are a few important considerations you should also make regardless of the skill level of mountain biking that you plan to partake in.
The first consideration, for anyone planning on being active outdoors regardless of mountain biking or not, should be to have a well stocked first aid kit. You can purchase biker specific first aid kits, that are purposefully designed to fit nicely in a small pack, under the seat or even in saddlebags. A well stocked first aid kit will contain antiseptic, pain reliever, tensor bandages, band-aids, moleskin, and tweezers.
The second necessity is to have a mountain bike specific tool kit and there many options available as to the type of bike you have and the tools you want it to contain. The very basic tool kit should have the required tools needed to repair a flat tire and will fit nicely under your seat or in a saddlebag. Other tools to look for are an Allan key or small wrench, a chain breaker, a tire gauge, a Swiss army knife, and some strong tape.
Another highly recommended piece of mountain biking equipment to include is a spare mountain bike chain. Any experienced bikers know all to well how easy it is to bust a chain on the trail and the headache it can cause. Often a broken chain can be repaired but do not take the risk of being left without one.
Last but definitely not least is a portable air pump. These pumps come in numerous shapes and sizes and can be purchased specifically to fit your bike. Most can fit under the seat or in saddlebags, and often the repair kit includes one.
