Triple Diamond Energy Spuds McClure Diamond Well

Many blog readers, upon reading the title of this blog post, may be wondering what potatoes have in common with the oil industry. However, for those that are unfamiliar with the lingo of the oil business, “spudding” is the term used to describe the first time the earth is drilled into at a prospective oil well location.

On March 14th of this year, the Triple Diamond Energy Corp. began drilling the McClure-Diamond Number 1 well for the first time. This drilling is taking place in Garvin County, Oklahoma, which is known to be a region of the continental US that is always producing oil.

The geologists at Triple Diamond Energy are always careful to monitor the soil samples when drilling a new region. These soil samples are taken and analyzed on an interval of every 10 ft. throughout the drilling procedure. As they dig deeper and deeper, the core samples are taken at 5 ft. intervals and these geologists determine through the samples the probability of more oil residing at greater depths.

The tactics involved in this “spud” of the McClure-Diamond No. 1 well in Oklahoma are the standard practices and procedure of any responsible, major oil company in the United States.
