Ski Holidays for the Eco Aware Holiday Maker
Dozens keen snowboarders will shortly be dusting down their ski pants and scooting away hunting for the heaviest snow conditions.
And doubtless the affect from our carbon footprint will be about as far down the list of holiday essentials as a turkey sandwich after xmas.
Just last winter, a slow snow made the the headlines and holidaymakers panicked about the bits of snow dissolving almost as soon as they landed.
Ski holiday organisation Chalet1802, located at the bottom of Monte Bianco in Chamonix France in the French Alps, is one of the first independent businesses to go carbon negative and give skiers an environmentally friendly selection whilst reserving their skiing holidays.
Chalet1802 founder Ellie said: Last season was a bit of a shock with the hottest winter in 55 yrs in the French Alps. Ski resorts for example Araches-la-Frasse, Le Grand-Bornand and Brevent lacked clients. It was warm and the snow didn’t settle so much of the early winter ski season in the French Alps was patchy. We chose to become carbon neutral to help preserve the snowboarding resort.
Ellie said: We’re not attempting to prescribe to punters but we feel it’s valuable to give them the choice without raising the price of the vacation. If the customer book with us and holidays in our Chamonix catered chalet they may more than off-set their carbon footprint and we take in the other prices. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub - clients want luxuriousness but not at the expense of the environment, so we looked at means of lessening the affect of a guest flying over here for a snowboarding holiday.”
The firm have moreover linked up with charity Climate Care, which attacks climate change by providing carbon dioxide deductions on behalf of people and companies.
