While MiFi routers that were introduced in the US a while back are still in use there, 3 has unveiled their first UK version in the market recently. Given the advantages listed by the service provider, the MiFi seems to give benefits of cost, ease of installation and sleekness - all in one attractive package. It remains to be seen how customers react to this new gadget on the block.

The MiFi is a wireless router aimed at enhancing user experience for mobile broadband service. 3’s existing broadband users will be able to add the MiFi to their existing service and leverage its massive advantages. The MiFi will allow up to five separate users, or pieces of compatible equipment, to be linked to an existing 3 mobile broadband connection.

Housed in a sleek body not much bigger than your palm, with no hassle of managing dangling wires, the MiFi gives users a compact and powerful tool to multiply the number of nodes with reliable connectivity using a single existing broadband connection.

There is more to the MiFi than these advantages. Users will benefit from lower battery consumption when they connect to the internet via the MiFi rather than the traditional 3G network. Multiply that by the five separate points of access and you get significant benefits.

In terms of costs, the MiFi presently comes in two schemes- about £70 for the gadget and 5 GB at £15 per month, or the wireless modem + data (3GB) package deal, which has a 3 month expiry date, for £99.99. Both these schemes are available on 18-month contract deals.
