ASU Slash Energy Bills by Going Green

Augusta State University, two years ago brainstormed by ideas of “going green” to reduce the school’s utility bills. The assistant director of the university ’s physical plant, Dave Freeman said that he has another idea andd that is to play the futures market.

68 cents per therm was high at that time as a price for naturral gas. In winter the demand historically pushed the prices even higher. October 2008, Freeman was trying to decide on which to turn on, the natural gas boiler or the electric boiler, after looking at the campus utility bills.

Regulating air conditioning in the summer and for providing hot water for the faucets and for heating in the winter is the boilers uses at the school all-year round.

Freeman said that on 2008 they switched a little late and doing it sooner could have saved $10,000.it was always a guess as to when to switch.

To develop a system that could tell him exactly when the price crossover occured, Freeman worked with Tom Schultz a professor in the College of Business.

Based on the New York Mercantile Exchange price for natural gas, the school will be charged by the gas company. NYMEX listed the current and futures price for natural gas is the website that Schultz found. By converting therms of natural gas into kilowatts of electricity and a spreadsheet that compared the gas price with the price of electricity is Schultz design.

Freeman had said that it gave him a way to compare the two prices, apples to apples.

Freeman said also that the system was tried and tested a couple of times, until the price of the gas boiloer dropped far enough to make it the obvious choice. It was not rocket science.

The tool that he is holding on to still is the price-crossover computation.

Freemans’ spreadsheet along with the going-green initiatives of more tools. In winter the school will set its thermostat lower and in the summer th school will set its thermostat higher and updated to energy-efficient equipments, the school also turns off their lights if there is no one around or iif it is not in use.

$624,000 was the schools savings over the past two years with the program.

The Advantages of Purchasing Refurbished Hardware

These days it is essential for contemporary businesses to buy network equipment just to sell their products or services on the World Wide Web. In addition to the initial expense, IT equipment must have maintenance and updates and this often has to be performed by an engineer. Then there is the profit loss caused by the down-time and hassle.

Second-hand networking equipment can reduce costs significantly and appeals in particular to new businesses and professionals working solo. Hence, the concept of purchasing second hand processors and zip drives is especially attractive. Most computer hardware required to run your company can be bought second-hand, reducing costs overall.

Another advantage to using used computer units is availability. However purchasing refurbished equipment that’ll meet your requirements may seem to be an arduous undertaking, specially if you know precisely what you need. On the other hand buying second hand is easy if you join forces with effective suppliers. You’ll be able to request units with specific features, a certain model, and may even have more options can be had for the asking.

Lots of the issues with advances in technology don’t come to light until the computer hardware has already been launched. The upshot of this is that companies who purchase new items as they enter the market are often forced to upgrade or patch the systems. As a matter of fact it’s not unheard of for early adopters to simply take the loss and replace the new IT equipment totally after an ineffective attempt at implementation. Naturally older computer hardware has been put through its paces thoroughly. You will not need to waste time resolving the bugs frequently experienced with the latest computer hardware. In addition, due to the fact that they’re carefully refurbished before being offered for sale, there’s no need to be worried about reliability. Selecting quality IT asset disposal services is crucial. Shop around and find somebody with a good track record. This makes sure the items you buy are fit for use. A guarantee is also a good idea, in case something goes wrong. For businesses that take the option of skipping brand-new computer hardware and source used IT equipment, the advantages involve more than simply money. So why not save yourself some money by straightaway purchasing second hand equipment and, what’s more, making the most of some great IT financing options in one fell swoop?

Frustratingly My Wireless Arrangement Has Gotten the Better of Me

I am lately having problems with my wireless setup. In about 5 minutes I get disconnected, whenever I connect to another network apart from my house network. I am not a computer genius, if I was not able to connect with the internet at all then I would probably blame my own incompetence, however most of the time I get along with not too many problems.I exhausted all my technical skills however couldn’t resolve the problem, as a result I had to call the hardware supportline of my internet service provider. It wasn’t going to be a pleasing experience as I had always had hassle with them when I had a problem. I am not a racist, however I do not understand why so many British call centres are outsourced to India. Although the Indian representatives are usually very well mannered, they do tend to sound like robots repeating the same thing over and over again and not tending to actually reply your question with a simple and direct yes or no. Anyway so I get through to a consultant after about twenty minutes of waiting on a national rate number, even though I had already paid a premium for this “quick and easy” pc support. At the starting of the call I had pressed a wrong button on the lengthy list of options. The operator then put me through to the correct division after another ten minute wait in another queue. At last, I spoke to the consultant and told him about the problem. He diagnosed it and told me that there is a slight problem in the internet line and I would have to call an engineer and pay him to fix the problem. When I asked how much this might cost he was extremely vague saying only that the call out charge is dependent on whether or not there’s an engineer in my region. I asked what the point of me paying monthly for pc support was if I had to pay for an engineer.I had to face the problem as it was with the phone line and not with my pc settings. I was getting the same reponse time and again, it was like talking to a wall, so I declined the engineer visit and began searching for other alternatives.I called my buddy Bruce who was a little bit of a techy to see if he might help. He came around to my residence and fixed the issue in actually two minutes, he said there was just a setting that was improper on my pc, so why did the call centre agent say that there was a problem with the telephone line? The answer to get extra money out of me!

Mouse for Scrolling

If you use a Mac then you probably either totally love the mouse or wish that it never existed. The mouse is something that is supposed to make the use of a computer easier. I am not sure who came up with the idea, but it was a very neat invention. There could have been something where you use your fingers to push where you want the cursor to go, but instead there is this thing where you rest your wrist on it and click away with your finger, or scroll away.

After a whiplash injury you could have some very bad neck pain, and this could then cause arm and finger pain. It might even interrupt your ability to use the mouse, so if you have this you can use the arrows instead. It is not that fun to sit there and push the arrows up and down, but it is and alternative. It will probably be just a few weeks until your spinal treatment is completed and then you can get back on the mouse. They come is so many different shapes and sizes and if you spend many hours at the computer then you will want to get one that best fits your hand and fingers.

Web Hosting Company Offers New Service for Resellers

A web hosting company has announced what it wants to call a “new and revolutionary plan” for dedicated server resellers.
The United Kingdom based company, Heart Internet, said that they are now offering a new service for interested resellers.

From now on, new and current dedicated server resellers will have no commitment or quota to reach whatsoever. However, a contract will be drawn and stipulated and will then be renewed on a monthly basis. Heart Internet officials also say that signing up as a reseller is free of charge and that the company aims to please their resellers and give them great benefits.

Among the benefits that they want to offer resellers is the access to view information about servers, IP addresses and bandwidths. Heart Internet also offers a one click server reboot. Resellers can do such reboot at any moment.

According to Heart Internet, there is a very high residual income available for resellers and for Heart Internet partners.

Jonathan Brealey, Director of Heart Web Hosting, was quoted as saying: “This new service is great for customers who find paying per month easier than being committed to a 12 months contract.”

The PS3 Isn’t Just a Game Console

The video gaming experience is different for everyone, it could end in hours of entertainment for a family or for the less experience, the final result could be disappointment due to lack of knowledge of how to operate the game console. There is a baffling number of choices on the game console market. The information you are looking for can be very difficult to find, but you will find there’s a lot of misinformation out there.

First off, here are some questions that you need to ask yourself and you should keep in mind while reading:

-What are the types of games that interest you?
Are you an HDTV owner, or do you intend to buy one?

Why dont we go over your financial situation so we can figure out what your budget is for it?

Which piques your interest the most, playing games with a group or the solo playing experience?
Have you got any of the old school gaming systems?

The PlayStation 3 was the most pricey for quite a while. Fortunately, prices are lower now than at that time. Now priced at four hundred US dollars (it all depends on the model you plan on buying)this price is more comparable. Prices change constantly so chech the latest video games console prices online.

The PS3 is an experience, it is more than just a game console. It has the capability to be a Blu-Ray, CD, or DVD player; as well as; it can upgrade DVDs to HD. The PS3 would be perfect for those with an HDTV and no HD movie player as you can get both of your movie and gaming experiences in the same box. This is with the latest technology of Blu-Ray, the leading high-definition movie format. If you aren’t viewing Blu-ray movies in high definition, you won’t see any better grade of the programs. This feature doesn’t translate well for use with a standard definition set.

While the PS2 controller is nearly identical to it, this unique controller utilizes a motion sensing technology known as Sisaxis. The controller, which can be tilted in six different directions, is able to sense which of the directions to which it has been tilted. The results vary from game to game based on well this has been incorporated. Doing it well means you’ll gain lots of experience, doing it wrong means you’ll be nothing more than a problem. The vibration feature is missing from the Sixaxis controller. The DualShock 3 controller with vibration will not be included with the new PS3’s, even though it has been released, until June 12, 2008.

You will find a lot of the same games for Xbox 360 and PS3.
