In light of the credit crunch ski reservations dropped this season.
Even with excellent pre season reservations coupled with superb skiing conditions.
This fall in numbers follows on from seven winters of continuous growth in the snowboarding industry, and the number of snowboarders went down from 1.25. 1.3 million in 2008/9 to less than a million last season.
Partly due to snowboarders giving the season a miss, while additional snowboarders who’d generally have two skiing holidays, just took the one.
The independent travel sector fell by 15% and a handful low cost airlines reducing the amount of routes to some destinations.
Tour operators witnessed the sales going down by about the same amount.
Nonetheless, the top six companies market share rested at 71% and the French Alps remained the favorite ski destination with about 37% of the market.
This meant that many tour operators cut the total number of catered chalets they operate this coming winter.
Catered ski holidays will surely witness a a drop in numbers due to the fact that a catered ski chalet costs the operator more with regards to chalet chefs and lease if it is unoccupied.
It’s unlikely therefore that we shall benefit from the type of special offers which were up for grabs last winter.
And prices are in all likelihood to increase, prices probably won’t rise much.
Next winter undoubtedly poses real challenges for the skiing industry which is influenced by the effects of the depression, weakness of the pound against the euro, high costs of fuel and high fixed costs for ski holiday companies.
This winter snowboarders will become more and more cost sensitive, which will lead to a reversion of the last years that witnessed a increase in the ski industry.

I spent part of my honeymoon there, and had to conclude it must be one of the most outstanding European honeymoon destinations possible. You don’t need to be on your honeymoon, bringing your spouse, or partner on a romantic vacation to Glasgow Scotland , you need look no further than Inverlochy castle.
You wouldn’t want to be staying here if you were looking for a affordable honeymoon destination that’s for sure, but having said that, if you get the chance to stay at Inverlochy Castle, then get it.
If you have money, then choose the King’s Suite and I’m positive you’ll get your money’s worth. It is beautiful and conventional, yet it has innovative conveniences such as plasma television and internet access that can rival any other. The bath is also huge, and the towels beautifully soft, and the walk in shower, which is something we both love.
We didn’t go there for the room, but all the other touches from a hotel like this. It is one of the most beautifully repaired Scottish castles, and arriving in the rain, an umbrella appeared, our luggage disappeared, and our car was parked. Then walking into chocolates and champagne in our suite was another nice touch
The entire stay in Glasgow was delightful as we were spoiled throughout our stay. The scenery was exquisite as we can see Ben Nevis in one window and Loch from the other. Lastly, the food was delightful.
You will enjoy the experience and place more if you are fond of a bit of hill walking, photography, just basking the view, because there isn’t much amusement around the area, but then we were on our honeymoon!!!
I think what we liked the most was how unobtrusive, and respectful the staff were, wholly respecting our privacy.
Not only is Inverlochy Castle one of the very top luxury hotels in Glasgow Scotland, it has to be one of the very best European honeymoon destinations

Surprisingly considering the credit crunch, skiing short breaks continue to remain a favourite alternative for snowboarders.
In part thanks to the advent of cheap airlines, as well as the proximity of numerous mountain towns to international airports, snowboarding weekends are now within the price of many skiers.
As snowboarders are loath to abandon their annual ski breaks, but, are loath to take one whole week’s vacation, several have decided to opt for a skiing weekend as an alternative.
Jetting off on a Thurs after work means one can prosper from three full days on the mountain for only one day off work.
A ski weekend in Chamonix can be a stimulating holiday, as long as you ensure the details are right, in order that the group will enjoy your precious trip.
As many skiing operators clipping on beds for the coming holiday season the price of skiing breaks is expected to rise.
The rise in prices will also impact the skiing short break marketplace, which although healthy last winter, could struggle were this the case.
However with the pound strengthening against the Euro, and because a lot of snowboarding weekend packages are all inclusive, implies there could possibly be bargains for the taking.
As a matter of fact now could constitute a fortuitous time to reserve one’s skiing vacation as there are a lot of excellent early discounts obtainable, as well as cheap flights.

Countless snowboarders will presently be trying to find their salopettes and dashing forth hunting for the largest snow conditions. And doubtless the results from your carbon footprint will be about as far down the list of holiday musts as a Christmas tree after Christmas. Only last winter, a late snow made the the tabloids and tourists were frightened about the flakes of snow disappearing almost as soon as they landed.
Snowboarding business Chalet 1802, located at the bottom of Monte Bianco in Chamonix in the French Alps, is one of the first autonomous firms to go carbon neutral and offer skiers an environmentally friendly alternative while organising their ski vacations. Chalet 1802 founder Caswallan stated: Last year was a bit of a shock with the most warm wintertime in 60 years in the French Alps. Snowboarding ski fields such as Hautacam, Les Houches and Val Cenis suffered. It was balmy and the snow didnt last so a lot of the early snowboarding season in the mountains was limited. We chose to go carbon neutral to assist in the preservation the ski resort.
Caswallan said: We’re not seeking to dictate to guests but I think it is of import to afford the clients the alternative without augmenting the cost of the stay. When they book with us and vacations in our skiing chalet they can further off set their carbon footprint and we soak up the other costs. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub - customers desire opulence but not at the expense of the surroundings, so we viewed methods of lessening the affect of a client traveling over here for a snowboarding holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have also linked up with organisation Climate Care, who attacks climate change by providing C02 reductions on behalf of people and companies.

Dozens avid snowboarders will soon be finding their salopettes and darting forth seeking the heaviest snowfall. And beyond any doubt the affect from our carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of vacation musts as a Christmas cracker after xmas. Merely last year, a tardy snow was in the newspaper headlines and holidaymakers were frightened about the flecks of snow dissolving nearly as soon as they landed.
Snowboarding business Chalets France, placed at the bottom of Mont Blanc in Chamonix Mont Blanc France in the French Alps, is one of the first autonomous businesses to go carbon neutral and afford snowboarders an environmentally friendly option while booking their skiing holidays. Chalet1802 founder BEROE said: Last season was a bit of a shock with the hottest wintertime in fifty years in France. Famous ski fields for example Superbagneres, La Grave and Les Contamines-Montjoie has difficulty. It was balmy and the snow didnt settle so much of the early season skiing season in the mountains was uneven. We resolved to become carbon negative to help preserve the snowboarding resort.
BEROE said: We are not assaying to dictate to punters only I feel it is crucial to grant them the choice without increasing the cost of the holiday. When the customer book with us and visits our Chamonix luxury chalet they may more than off set their carbon output and we absorb the extra costs. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub - customers wish for lavishness but not at the expense of the environment, so we viewed means of lessening the impact of a guest flying over here for a ski holiday.”
The company have also joined with group Climate Care, who tackles global warming by providing carbon dioxide deductions for individuals and businesses.

With the sterling fetching less than a Euro at Travelex airport counters, you’d reckon there would be many real skiing break bargains to be booked in alpine ski resorts this Christmas as snowboarders stay back home to beat the crunch. Initial figures merely released point to the fact that ski towns are 89 % full across the Xmas and New year period. 11 percent higher than the identical period of time a year ago.
You will have some luck in January that presently has a 33 % reservation level. The only signs of a downturn is over the significant February skiing holiday month which has 64 percent reservations, 2 percent lower than last year. Reservation desks in the domains of Isola 2000, Bessans, Montroc and Les Orres have seen heavy bookings during December advanced by the good early on winter snow. Montroc has higher demand compared to last winter, and Val Cenis enjoyed a grand New Year.
But there is substantial call for bigger chalet, 8 to 12 places, as people group-up to save. Evidence shows that do it yourself snowboarding trips are holding up, perhaps pointing to the fact that earnest boarders are not going to give up their ski break. However inquiries for the big tour operators are down.
