Underground Hypnosis carries a somewhat cloudy rep, but as with other types of conversational hypnosis it can be a source of real help. You should know that you can efficiently speak to the unconscious mind using these techniques, but you perhaps don’t realize that it’s possible to ease complaints, whether mental, emotional, or physical. This could be something as basic as paying attention to a particular TV show or doing something silly to battling mental disorder and beating various addictions. I can accept that this might worry you, but the experts have it down to a science and produce few if any difficulties. Let’s turn our attention to the Underground Hypnosis movement, together with other types of black ops hypnosis, and consider the desired end; induction into a trance state. How deeply the person enters the trance state depends on their personality and emotional status.
The least deep degree of trance occurs at the moment when they first start to slacken some outlying muscle systems. A desire to fall asleep comes to the fore at this point, and further muscles unwinding may lead to drooping eyelids. As the subject goes deeper, this ease starts spreading to more significant muscles. Typically, this takes almost no time at all.
With a little more work, the individual becomes so far submerged in their trance state that their sensory experience is restricted to whoever has hypnotized them. Once they’re are this stage, the subject is sensitive to compulsion by hypnotic suggestion and controlled by their subconscious. At greater depths you’ll find you can prevent recollection of given situations — or to suppress physical sensation, causing you not to register a touch or pain in a given area.
Hallucinations begin to appear the deeper they slide into a trance state, and after some time the subject will arrive at a state comparable to that experienced when undergoing general anesthetic. As a matter of fact, subjects could undergo various medical procedures in this state without no need for anesthesia.
You won’t learn how to bring someone to that state through Underground Hypnosis, though, naturally, it’s rarely needed. No, when looking for the usual goals of a hypnotist, you should only employ the lighter degrees of trance. You know the best part? Anybody has a chance to be taught these techniques using the Underground Hypnosis program. Through spending a little time reading and some hours honing your system, you’ll rapidly develop into quite a skilled hypnotist. That’s all there is to it — nothing to disturb you.

The patient’s depression was crippling. He was in an out of psychiatric hospitals and could not work let alone function a normal life. All other treatments had failed him until neurosurgeon John Smider performed and operation. His skull was opened exposing his brain, in which they then placed a battery operated “pacemaker.” This pacemaker emits a rhythmic electrical pulse which alleviates depression whithout altering the thinking process or damaging the brain.
The operation was a success! The patient positive attitude soon returned and he was able to return to work. “You saved my life,” he told the doctor. “Now I can live a normal life.”
This man was one of many millions of americans suffering from chronic depression, a disorder that created intense feelings of guilt, helplessness and hoplessness. Many other symptoms of this disorder are disturbances in appetite and sleep, constant fatigue, crying spells and the inability to cope with life and derive pleasure from anything.
Only a very slight amount of people suffering from chronic depression require surgical treatment with a “pacemaker.” With most forms of major depression trained professions can help the patient.
What treatments are available? There are a variety. Some suggest that other methods do not work, and others suggest that multiple methods work together. Why is this?
Some researchers feel that severe depressions are caused by a physical defect in the body, such as a chemical imbalance in the brain, thusly medication such as antidepressants are considered a viable method of treatment. Others argue that the disorder results from faulty thinking and that the mind creates the imbalance and can thereby rectify it. These believe that the mind needs correction by “talk therapy,” psychotherapy. While both methods have experienced some good results, neither of them has the full answer.
Mind and Body Involved
The relationship between the mind and the body is a complex relationship because of the close interplay between the mind and body.
Each and every patient is different and mental disorders can be very complex. Only a trained doctor can make recommendations as to which approach is best for the patient. It is recognized that within every field of treatment there are often a wide range of practitioners. For example in psychotherapy there are over 130 different reported approaches.
Talk Out Depression
When one is sufffering from major depression, psychotherapy or “talk therapy” is one recommended approach. Since a depressed person usually has greatly disturbed ideas, many have been aided by their talking to a therapist. Such professionals may include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and others with specialized training. Many have also found great help in just talking with a caring friend of relative.
Armand DiMele, director of the Center for Psychotherapy, observes: “The depressed person is protecting himself by shutting down his mind and body and not allowing any stimulation. For example, when someone suffers a loss such as a death, he may go into a depression rather than face the loss.” The job of the counselor is to help the sufferer to face the feelings and anxiety that come from such a loss. DiMele continues: “If the therapist sitting with him can really nurture him through and tell him what to anticipate in body sensations, then the person gradually realizes he can cope with the emotion, and the depression lifts.”
Submerged feelings, such as anger, resentment and guilt, have often bred depression. For instance, a psychologist employed by the New York State Mental Health Department treated a 58-year-old woman suffering from severe depression. She felt that God had abandoned her and that everyone was talking against her. As this expert of 20 years’ experience began to talk with her in a kindly way each week, he noticed that in discussions about her family she never mentioned her mother, with whom she was now living. He probed. In time she revealed that she felt that her mother, by her neglect, was responsible for her beloved father’s recent death. Gradually the counselor helped her to overcome this resentment, and her depression melted away.
Since guilt is often a major symptom of depression, psychologists will endeavor to eliminate it along with the patient’s feelings of worthlessness. One woman became severely depressed when her child turned rebellious. “I was never really a proper mother, was I?” she cried to the psychiatrist. “That’s why she’s gone wrong.” The doctor helped her to see all the good she had done for the child. The guilt then vanishedand so did her depression.
However, the treatment of most cases is unsuccessful, according to Dr. Ronald Fieve. He reports in his book MoodswingThe Third Revolution in Psychiatry that not infrequently, after weeks, months and years of working with a moderate or severe depressive, helping him to analyze his behavior, “very little happened.”
Authorities in the field differ as to intensive psychotherapy’s effectiveness. One of the reasons for this is that many doctors feel that the chemical imbalance present in severe moodswings cannot always be corrected by psychotherapy. They advocate the use of . . .

People tend to sense uncertainty to the real meaning behind the word depression, trying to determine the difference between a depressive illness to that of a miserable mood can be tricky at times. In the medical world doctors use the word depression in different terms.
Symptoms of a depressive illness and gloomy dismal feelings are very much like a duplicated source therefore a solid excuse for any confusion.
Almost anyone can suffer from depression some people see this illness as a sign of weakness, how far from the truth that is. Depression is a common ailment and is treatable. Someone who may have in the past experienced a bout of depression can expect the risk of a repeat dose.
Approx 5/10 per cent of the population has had or are suffering from depression.
They say women are more susceptible to suffer than that of the male species.
People intend to question themselves or that of others as to why more are prone to this illness than that of other people. Has it anything to do with an individual’s personality.
Personality types differ greatly but this has nothing to do with why certain people in particular develop the illness. How ever there are slight risk factors that have been known (genetic factors inherited) from parents or their parents.
Mystery lurks behind why some people suffer from this illness but there are ways of identifying why it may have developed in others. Stressful events like bereavement, losing a job or even moving house can riddle you with depression.
Depression, can strike at any time just like that of the common cold. And it is clear how the brain pattern changes when a person is depressed. Modern scans of the brain have deciphered just how hard the brain works and has found that certain parts like the front do not work as expected. It is also found that a patient has higher than what you would call normal levels of stress hormones.
Feelings experienced with depressive illness can stay with the patient for weeks sometimes running into months.
Disorderly Conduct of the brain.
This is a psychological disorder which is hard to understand due to the trail of physical side effects one being total exhaustion. Other known facts are, depressed people dream up to three times more that of the non sufferer.
Major discoveries in psychology has given us hope in having a better understanding of what depression is all about. With the outcome of recent research there are now answers to questions that have baffled a great many in the past
Standing your ground by facing up to what may be the cause behind your discomfort is a step in the right direction. If the death of a loved etc has caused the pain/sorrow then the cure is time, time heals so they say. For every venomous predator namely diseases etc that takes you as prey, remember there is an antidote.
If you have any concerns about yourself or that of another person please talk to your local GP.

Before we start talking about how to deal with sexual harassment I think it’s important to define exactly what sexual harassment is: Sexual harassment is anything in word or deed that is sexual in nature which makes you uncomfortable.
This can be something as innocuous as a co-worker baldly asking if you got laid over the weekend, to your boss patting you on the posterior as you walk by his/her desk. Sexual harassment can be subtle and it’s not a condition experienced only by women, men experience sexual harassment as well. I suspect that harassment of male workers on the job is just as prevalent as harassment of female workers, men are simply less likely to come forward about it because the idea of a female or even male boss or co-worker sexually harassing a male employee seems ludicrous.
Now that you know what sexual harassment is, what do you do about it if it’s happening to you?
1. Start keeping a written journal of incidents. Write down what happened, what was said to you, and how you chose to deal with it at the time and why. Also put the date and the time of the incident. Keep this journal in a very safe place. If your boss has access to your desk even if it’s locked and he/she is the abuser, it is common for others to get in your desk, keep your harassment journal at home.
2. Tell someone. Start with the Human Resources department. If you work for a small company and there is no HR department or there is no real defined person in charge of HR then go to your boss. If he/she is the harasser then go to that person’s boss. If the your boss is the owner, and there is no HR department, then make a formal complaint to the Labor Board in your city. Above all do not keep what is happening to yourself. Remember, you have done nothing wrong, and you have the right to work in a safe environment free of sexual harassment.
3. What if you’re retaliated against? Don’t put up with it. Retaliation can be very subtle, it might be a one-on-one meeting where your boss or co-worker threatens you and/or your job, or you may find yourself with too little or too much work to do to name a few examples. If this happens, document it in your journal, and go back to whomever you spoke to the first time and report the retaliation. Continue to do so for as long as it continues. Don’t let up on the abuser, tell him/her to stop it immediately. Don’t discontinue reporting, even if it appears that no one is listening to you, or even if they tell you to stop. You have the legal right to report the retaliation, any further sexual harassment, and to work in an environment which is not hostile. Remind anyone of that if they attempt to thwart your efforts.
4. Ok, you’ve kept a journal, you’ve reported any further incidents of harassment and retaliation, you’ve repeatedly told the harasser to stop, but nothing is improving. You’ve done everything you can and the workplace has become a nightmare. You wake up in cold sweats from dreams about the situation, you’re having trouble sleeping, eating, and you’re suffering from depression and/or extreme anxiety. At this point my advice to you would be to quit and find another job. You may be thinking you need this job. No you don’t. No job is worth being in if you are being sexually harassed and retaliated against. It’s not worth your health, it’s not worth your time, and it certainly isn’t worth any amount of money.
Quit. It’s that simple. Think you won’t be able to claim unemployment. Not necessarily. If you can prove to the unemployment department that you had no choice but to quit and why then you have a chance. Show them your journal, show them a copy of your employment file, (Make sure you get a copy of this prior to quitting. Legally your company must provide you with a complete copy of your file within a specified time period usually 48 hours after the request is made.) show them your medical records if you went to doctors and/or therapists in an effort to cope with the situation. Have the person you are working with at the unemployment office call the person you reported the incidents to at the company you worked for, or the Labor Board.
The important thing here is to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt there was no choice but quitting. Of course you also have the option of applying of other jobs while keeping your current job, just be aware you may have to quit prior to finding another job. Don’t stay if you can safely leave, especially if you have savings or can get help to tide you over until you have a new job.
You’ve quit, you’ve found another job, you’re done right? Wrong. Don’t shred, or throw out your journal, or your employee file, or anything from your doctor/therapist that helps to prove what happened to you. Keep all of these things, and stay in touch with co-workers at your old job. You never know when someone may file a lawsuit against the company and/or the sexual harasser. It’s also possible a co-worker might quit and need your proof to back theirs up so they can get unemployment. The last thing to do is make a second set of everything and put it in a safety deposit box, or give it to a trusted friend or neighbor. This way if your house burns down or some other catastrophe happens you still have your proof.
Ultimately the choice is yours as to how to handle sexual harassment, but the important thing to remember is you have the right to a safe and enjoyable work environment. My final words of advice to you are, choose to not be a victim of sexual harassment.

The Helen Duncan story is one that is both fantastic and sadly, very tragic. She was born in Scotland in 1898. Her greatest period of popularity was during the 1930’s and 1940’s when the was most in demand as a psychic. What she was most known for was holding séances in people’s homes where she would supposedly contact family members who had long gone to their graves.
In 1933 Duncan was accused of fraud when a policewoman successfully grabbed a vest that was supposed to be Helen’s spirit child helper. She was found guilty of fraud and fined ten pounds. In spite of this scandal, she continued to hold her séances until 1944 when one of them was raided by the police. A police officer tried to grab the ectoplasm that was coming from the medium, thinking it was just a white sheet, but he was unable to grab a hold of it. No sheet was actually found when other officers went through the room. Even though no evidence of fraud was discovered, Duncan and three others were ordered to appear at Portsmouth magistrates’ court. They were all charged with conspiracy.
They were refused bail, and Duncan spent four days in a British prison. The case was sent to the central criminal court at the Old Bailey. There, many charges were brought against her which included vagrancy and conspiracy, and believe it or not, the Witchcraft Act of 1735. This absolutely caused an uproar with Spiritualists. The trial lasted seven days. During that time many people testified on Duncan’s behalf. They each recalled many feats she performed. Duncan told one of her visitors that a family member had just died, and later it was confirmed that this person had died just two hours before the meeting. Many other claims were made to verify that Duncan was indeed legitimate.
Even though many attempts were made to prove Duncan’s ability, she was eventually sentenced to nine months in jail. After she finished serving her sentence, she returned to do her spiritual work. There were many accounts of her work as a medium. Many of the reports told of the actual appearances of those who had passed away.
In 1951, the Witchcraft Act of 1735 was finally done away with and in its place was put the Fraudulent Mediums Act. In 1956, the police raided one of Helen’s séances in Nottingham. They claimed to be searching for props and interrupted a séance right in the middle. Supposedly this interruption caused a great shock to Duncan by having the ectoplasm return to her body too quickly. A doctor was called to examine her. She became so ill that she had to return to Scotland to be with her family. In just five weeks after the raid she died. Many believe the raid to be the cause.
There are no definite conclusions to this very sad and tragic story. If she was the talented medium that many claimed she was then she did herself no good by adding fraudulent activities to her gifts. The truth is, we will never really know if she was a gifted psychic or just another con artist.

You can gain time and energy in your life. This can be done by spending a few minutes each day making your life simpler. “Downsizing” your life a little at a time will lower stress and bring you a sense of satisfaction.
You may be wondering what do I mean by “Downsizing”? There are times in life when you need to get rid of things. Things that clutter your life. Things that no longer have value to you and your family.
We all have a tendency to collect more than we really need. Some of us are collectors to the extent that we have a totally cluttered life. Others have a neat life, but still have more than they need stored away in the depths of their closets.
Once a year we need to go through our closets, garages, dresser drawers and boxes stashed in the attic and find out what we can get rid of.
There is a saying, “Get rid of what you do not want to make room for what you do want”. If you were to follow this advice, you would find your life less cluttered than it ever has been, or at least less cluttered than it has been in a long time.
Collecting too many things begin to weigh our lives down with so much stuff that we cannot get out from under it. If you have to make isles in your garage or storage shed to get to things or worse yet, you have to make isles inside your home to get to things, you need to make a decision to start sorting through your belongings and get rid of things you KNOW you will never use again.
Do you save clothes in hope of returning to the size you were when you stored them? This clothing can add up to boxes and boxes of things that will be out of style by the time you actually can wear them again.
You local charities can use donations of clothing. They can use good clothes to sell in their thrift shop and to help clothe the needy. They can even use holey and moth eaten clothing which they bale and send off as rags.
Maybe you have boxes or cabinets with mismatched dishes. How about old silverware and utensils you no longer use. Put them all in the donation box.
Have you been saving books and magazines that you plan to read or re-read some time in the future. If you have not read them in the last three years, do you really think you will read then in the next three? It is unlikely. I know you are saving many of them as references. With the Internet, you have all the reference material you will ever need right at your fingertips. Get rid of books and magazines. Put them in the donation box.
If you really cannot stand to give things away because it all has value, have a garage sale. Make it a challenge to have tons of stuff at your sale. When it is over, take whatever does not sell and donate it to a charity. Promise yourself you will get rid of the leftovers.
To sum up clutter, it robs valuable time from your life. It takes away some of your life energy and makes you wonder how you will ever organize it all. Do not organize it all; get rid of a lot of it.
You can often save money by spending $3 at the store rather than spending three hours looking for something you know you have, but cannot find. You end up buying the lost item anyway.
Get rid of what you do not want to make room for what you do want! Your stress will decrease automatically.

Telecommuting, or working from a location other than an official jobsite, is a great way to boost employee morale, save money on office space, and help reduce automotive emissions. While there are many positive outcomes of telecommuting, there are also pitfalls that must be avoided. Before implementing a telecommuting policy, there are several considerations every organization should consider.
- First, it’s important to consider who might be eligible to work from home. Are there specific positions that can be identified for telecommuting? Are there positions where telecommuting is not an option? How will this be decided? One consideration is the ability to track employee workload. Is there a method of measuring productivity for each position eligible for telecommuting?
- Next, a decision must be made about the approval process for working offsite. Will there be an application process? What will the process involve? Some employees, while they might be eligible based on position, are not self-motivated and wouldn’t be good candidates for telecommuting. In this situation, there must be the ability for management to decline the application for telecommuting. However, there must be clear guidelines so the process for approval is fair and unbiased. Who will make the final decision if an employee requests approval to telecommute? How will this be conveyed to the employee? Will the employee have the ability to appeal the process?
- Telecommuting involves technology. What equipment will the organization provide for the employee? Who will be responsible for setting up and providing maintenance on the equipment? If a laptop is used, will the employee be expected to bring it into the office for scheduled maintenance and upgrades or can that be handled remotely?
- Telecommuting also involves costs. Will the company pay for an Internet connection? A phone connection or mobile phone contract? These costs must be considered before authorizing an employee to telecommute. If it’s not cost-effective for the company, it might not make sense to implement a telecommuting policy.
- The final consideration before allowing employees to telecommute is the process for revoking the privilege. It must be written into the policy that telecommuting can be discontinued, and the reasons this may occur. This will remind employees that certain standards must be maintained in order to continue working offsite.
Many decisions must be made before announcing that the organization is ready to allow employees to telecommute. These decision can be guided by the questions raised above, but should not be limited to the content of this article. Every organization is different and with those differences come additional concerns. For additional resources on telecommuting in the United States, visit the federal government site, http://www.telework.gov/, which offers guidance for both supervisors and employees.
Sonia Fischer has been telecommuting in various positions for several years and uses this experience to advise others on policy implementation.

NATIONAL DEPRESSION WEEK
17th APR 2006 - 24th APR 2006
What is National Depression Week?
National Depression Week (or NDW) is a key time of the year in event calendars for many charities or campaigners whereby they try to promote awareness of depression. This could be in the form of newsletters, newspapers, articles, campaigns, advertising and fund raising. With depression being such a debilitating condition funds need to be raised to support the work of charities like Depression Alliance to enable them to continue their work long into the future.
It is important to recognise that depression affects approximately 1 in 5 people at any one time. Anyone can suffer from depression at any time in their life. Usually depression affects people after they have gone through a traumatic life experience. Issues build up, problems are not resolved and minds dwell on negative thoughts.
Depression affects people in numerous ways. A person suffering from depression can find it hard to get into the day-to-day activities that life has to offer them. They lack motivation, energy and enthusiasm, relationships can breakdown, jobs can become extremely difficult to do, concentration levels suffer and the isolation felt by a depressive becomes paramount. If left untreated the illness can develop to such a severe extent that a person can consider suicide as their last resort to a way out of he pain they are suffering.
There are many cures and options available to assist a person who may suffering with depression, but these tools need to be made available to people in the first place. So by providing support to the charities that need it the most, you could actually be saving a life.
So how can you help?
You could organise a fundraising event…
Whether it be a walking challenge, a party, a month without chocolate, a day without talking (sponsored silence)… use your imagination and come up with something interesting and exciting whereby other people will be happy to sponsor you.
You can then create a sponsorship page at http://www.justgiving.com/depression/raisemoney This is a safe environment. You do not need to worry about cash or cheques as the money is sent electronically.
You could make a donation…
Charities are just that, charities. They receive little or no government funding whatsoever and in order to continue to provide their services, they usually rely heavily on membership and donations. Every penny raised will go towards raising awareness of depression and contributing towards the continual service of charities that rely so heavily on people’s generosity. To make a donation visit www.depressionalliance.org.
You could put up posters around your workplace, school or collage… You can be inventive and create your own designs or you could download the poster from depressionalliance.org (available from beginning of march). Either way you will be providing awareness of depression and National Depression Awareness Week.
Go on - do your bit today… you never know, one day it could be you who needs the support!
